Bayaaz-e-Ghamgeen is a brief collection of Urdu elegiac poetry by Mrs. Amatul Husain Imam (Ghamgeen). She originally hails from Lucknow, one of the most important centres of Urdu language and a magnet for Urdu poets and writers who came flocking from the surrounding towns and cities. She was born to the well-known family of the Rajas of Muhmudabad (Sitapur) on her paternal side and the Rajas of Bilehra on her motherâs side. Poetic expression, a talent that has run in her family for several generations, is something she has inherited. Several of her ancestors, including her late father, Muhammad Amir Ahmad Khan, the erstwhile Raja of Mahmudabad, her grandfather, Maharaja Muhammad Ali Muhammad Khan, her great grandfather, Amiir-ud-Daulah, Raja Amiir Hasan Khan and in turn his father, Muqeem-ud-Daulah, Raja Muhammad Nawab Ali Khan, all composed Urdu poetry, both the marsiya form (together with its accompanying elegiac shorter poems and lyrics) as well as the Urdu ghazal. Her husband, Syed Muhammad Amir Imam (Hurr) is also a well-known modern Urdu poet.
